The Turkey Check - Merhaba Istanbul
This time Tobi checks his questions in a faraway country: Turkey! Merve put the idea into his head. He knows her from the "Islam Check". Istanbul is her favourite city + with over 12 million inhabitants one of the biggest metropolises in the world! Istanbul, which used to be called Byzantium and later Constantinople, even connects two continents. Merve and Tobi find out which ones during a boat trip on the Bosporus. This is the strait that divides the city in two. And the best part: Tobi even gets to steer the boat himself! Back on land, Tobi gets a little language lesson from Merve. For example, "hello" means "merhaba" in Turkish. Of course, the checker immediately tests his new language skills at an ice cream vendor.
But it's not just Turkish ice cream that's special, the Istanbul ice cream sellers also have a few tricks up their sleeves... Merve + Tobi also find out what a "dolmus" is - something that only exists in Istanbul - and where you can go with it. They explore the Serkici railway station, from where Turkish guest workers left for Germany over 40 years ago. And many families have found a new home in Germany.
Merve, too, is the granddaughter of guest workers + invites Tobi to a family party on a great panoramic terrace at the end. As night falls, Tobi has to say "Güle Güle Istanbul!" Goodbye, Istanbul!
