Enjoying the Ortenau - Celebrating and feasting between the Rhine, fruit and vines
The film presents the Ortenau region with its specialties + its stories and what people make of them - in restaurants, in distilleries on wineries and at various festivals held around individual specialties.
Nestled between the Rhine and the Black Forest, Ortenau is one of Germany's climatically preferred regions. Climate + fertile soils make it a true paradise garden - fruit and wine growing characterize the picture + people like to celebrate with and around their regional specialties.
Achern has the most cherry trees in the whole of Baden-Württemberg and at the time of the cherry blossom, the people of Mösbach celebrate a festival where not only the blossoming cherry tree plantations are hiked, but also cherry delicacies are offered - from cherry bratwurst to monster cherry pie. Oberkirch celebrates Germany's largest strawberry festival, which also features unusual strawberry creations, such as strawberry chutneys and strawberry tarte flambée. The renowned confectioner Gmeiner will be offering a variety of sweet specialties based on strawberries in its café. The Bühler plum is also a celebrity. The festival held in its honor is the largest folk festival in the region. Durbach is home to top wineries, such as that of the internationally award-winning Laible winegrowing family. In everyday life, the Durbach winemakers are competitors, but once a year they sit together to choose the best Durbach Riesling - the "Jahrgangs-Klingelberger". The Weber family in Ettenheim not only owns one of the largest walnut plantations in southern Baden, but has also been running a restaurant specializing in walnut menus on their estate for several years. The Taubergießen, the idyllic and wild side arms of the Rhine, have been the stomping grounds of fishermen such as the Maurer family for centuries. In the sixth generation, the Maurers fish pike, white fish and crayfish and prepare their fresh catches for guests in the family's own fishing tavern.
