Countries - People - Adventure - Green Wonder Costa Rica
As a tourist destination Costa Rica attracts above all with its nature. The value of this resource is well known: around a quarter of the country is protected. Long dream beaches, lush jungle, fascinating volcanoes and hot springs, plus a rich variety of flora and fauna: all this in a peaceful, democratic country that is also called the "Switzerland of Central America". The country between the two oceans offers an enormous wealth of different habitats in a small area - Costa Rica is only slightly larger than Lower Saxony - and shows that not all primeval forests are the same: there are evergreen rainforests, cloud forests or even dry forests like those on the Pacific coast. In each of these primeval forests, nature can be experienced at close quarters, in Monteverde National Park for example, even at treetop height during a hike on suspension bridges. While the west coast of the country has a climate that is quite pleasant for Central Europeans during the dry season, the east coast is one of the regions that is always humid. But the towns and small towns offer typical Caribbean life - with reggae music, delicious food and a lot of calmness...
