We and the animal - worshipped or consumed
Why do we eat some animals + love others? While dogs + cats often serve as a family substitute, pigs and cattle usually have a different value. We treat them like things and exploit them. Is this contradiction morally justifiable? More and more people say "no". An "NZZ Format" about beloved dogs, happy pigs, contradictory people and how the cow comes to a dignified end. Not only animal ethicists + animal welfare activists, but also farmers + responsible consumers are asking themselves the question: What should species-appropriate animal husbandry + ethically justifiable meat consumption look like?
