However, aloe vera has a history stretching back thousands of years and can be used in many different ways: In Egypt, Cleopatra already appreciated the healing properties of the desert plant. But does aloe vera really have the potential to heal and nourish or is this just skilful marketing? Aloe vera is also very versatile in the kitchen. Begoña Frahija uses it as a meat substitute in hamburgers, for example. In her homeland, the volcanic island of Lanzarote, the conditions for growing aloe vera are ideal. For those who don't have aloe in their own garden, Lucie reveals how to prepare fake caviar using agar agar and the juice of the plant. The delicious pearls are ideal for garnishing appetisers, for example.
