Countries - People - Adventure - The Evenks - Between Reindeer Sled and Snowmobile

The report gives a small insight into the present-day life of the Evenks at Lake Baikal between modernity + tradition. When the Siberian Evenks discovered Lake Baikal in search of new hunting grounds, they are said to have shouted "baka, baka". It means: we have found it, we are saved. Whether this or another legend gave the oldest freshwater lake on earth its name is uncertain. The film team was accompanied by this legend on its search for the Evenks at Lake Baikal. Evenks live in the People's Republic of China, Mongolia + in large parts of Siberia. At the northern tip of Lake Baikal, the Evenks are considered indigenous, but only a few representatives of this people can be found there today. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the Evenk tribes try to preserve their identity. The language of their ancestors can be heard very little in this area. But songs, dances and customs can be experienced. At the big festival on the frozen Lake Baikal in April, the Evenks wear their traditional costumes, they cook traditional dishes + old melodies played with the Jew's harp can be heard everywhere.
