Delicious on board - Culinary treasures in Bergkamen
This year, captain Heinz-Dieter Fröse sails with the houseboat unaone from the Lower Rhine to the northern Ruhr area. Along the canals from Wesel to Hamm, chefs Björn Freitag and Frank Buchholz will explore the Roman route. For the finale, they head to the city port of Dortmund. In the current episode, they set course for Bergkamen. Amidst a spectacular industrial backdrop, they dock at the idyllic Marina Rünthe. It is the largest sports boat harbor in NRW - for captain Heinz-Dieter Fröse a highlight on this year's tour! Always on the lookout for the region's best products, they visit people ashore who give everything for good food. Björn wants to make a vegetarian dish and is on a vegetable mission. In Werne, he meets Johannes Laurenz, who offers bush beans, sweet corn and potatoes for self-harvesting in his fields directly in front of a disused power plant. The chef then visits Vitus Schulze-Wethmar, a farmer in Lünen. Here, too, he harvests everything fresh from the field, but with a tractor. And that's a very sensitive matter in a carrot field, as the chef discovers. Frank discovers his "love" for rapeseed oil on a farm in Fröndenberg. In a small manufactory, the Raffenberg family produces oil from their own rapeseed. On the farm of a farmers' cooperative in Bergkamen, Frank meets Theresa Kampmann. The young butcher cuts up a piece of beef for him and cuts something very special for the meal on board: a piece of kidney cone, also called onglet. He later cooks this in a bed of herbs and then grills it. Björn serves a real home-style snack today: Potato-carrot mash interpreted in a modern way - with vegetarian meatball. The professional chefs are united not only by their love of their homeland and their craft, but also by a long-standing friendship. In the kitchen they are a super team and give the viewers lots of professional tips from their cooking life. Inspired by the good mood on board and the diversity of the products, the three men enjoy the delicious summer evening on deck in Bergkamen!
