die nordstory - Advent in the north
Christmas is in the air in this “nordstory”:
Hamburg: pre-Christmas season on St. Pauli Neon signs, it sparkles and glitters all year round on St. Pauli. But in the run-up to Christmas, the neighborhood also pauses for a moment. Santa Pauli is a Christmas market with a difference. This applies to both the stalls and the visitors. The stall holders are also very special people. And at the Schmidt Theater right on the Reeperbahn, rehearsals are underway for a children's musical: “The Christmas Bakery”.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: the shepherd from Hullerbusch Jakob Hermühlen's sheepfold in the dreamy stretch of land between Lake Carwitz and Schmaler Luzin in the Feldberg lake district has been home to 400 Pomeranian sheep and 30 goats for nine years. From one day to the next, the trained carpenter had to take over his father's traditional business after an accident took his life. Jakob has remained true to the family tradition and has kept the old Hullerbusch logo. However, wool processing, marketing and sales stands bear his signature. Recently, two young shearers from Berlin have also arrived. They are gentler on the animals.
Lower Saxony: until all the lights are on - Hanover's Christmas lights The world's largest continuous Christmas lighting system is installed in Hanover's city center. Glowing poinsettias and twinkling fairy lights, bigger than in New York! More than 300,000 points of light, a good 100 shooting stars and ten kilometers of fairy lights have to be installed at an adventurous height. A climbing team from Tyrol has been requested. The largest Christmas star weighs 250 kilograms and has a diameter of nine meters! Martin Prenzler, master of lights and stars, is particularly proud of the new LED technology. It saves 90 percent energy. Everyone is eagerly awaiting the big moment when the lights are switched on in Hanover! “die nordstory” is there.
Schleswig-Holstein: Advent in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Lübeck, the former queen of the Hanseatic cities, attracts crowds of visitors, especially during the Advent season, with lovingly decorated historic alleyways and various Christmas markets that cover large parts of the old town island. A very special market is to be created around the European Hanseatic Museum: very tranquil, a little away from the hustle and bustle. Marian Rojahn is in charge of setting up the market and has two major tasks ahead of him. How can he create a cozy atmosphere that invites families with children in particular to linger? And above all: how can he organize an ice rink in pink, which Lübeck's head of tourism wants so much as an attraction for the kids? Master confectioner Aurèle Uter works right next door in the small Fräulein Brömse café.
Sweet temptations are served there, in the former confessional house of Lübeck's castle monastery of all places. Aurèle's plan: He finally wants to counter the classic and world-famous Dresden Christmas stollen with a Lübeck version! He has tracked down old recipe books from the 16th century in the city library. Perhaps he will find an interesting idea for his Hanseatic Christmas stollen. In any case, one thing is certain: Marzipan must definitely be included as an ingredient.
