Harvest in the Southwest - Memories of Life in the Countryside
Harvest festival used to be a big celebration every year, a welcome end to the hard everyday work in the fields around the villages on the heights of the Black Forest, Eifel or Palatinate. There, life did not offer much variety, and so everyone looked forward expectantly to the rare opportunity to meet, celebrate together and exchange news. SWR authors travel through the villages of Baden-Wuerttemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate and listen to the stories of how things were back then at the harvest festivals and what has survived to this day. The film collects memories of important childhood events and entertaining incidents connected with the regionally different festivals and customs. Many black-and-white photographs and historical archive material complement the stories and pictures from today.
