Hotel stories - luxury, sweat and extra wishes

Hotels are places that want to transport people into a dream world and enchant them with sumptuous interiors, culinary delights, wellness temples and pure friendliness. Guests spend their vacations here or meet business partners, escape from the daily grind or enjoy pure luxury. The others, the hotel makers, do their utmost to satisfy the visitors and fulfill their wishes. SWR presenter Annette Krause goes in search of hotel stories. She talks to hotel managers and owners about their extraordinary concepts. She slips into the most diverse roles + also lends a hand herself. In Offenburg, a former prison has been turned into the Hotel Liberty. Where once tough guys were incarcerated, guests now stay in cozy rooms with all the comforts. The former prison yard has become an impressive glass tube. Annette assists the receptionist, accompanies guests to their rooms and makes sure they want for nothing. In Heidelberg, Claudia Klischka has fulfilled a dream with the Hip Hotel. In her hotel, you can literally travel around the world. The rooms are named after cities, each with its own flair and authentic furnishings. In the "down-under room," everything is literally upside down and you wonder if you still have solid ground under your feet. Annette makes herself useful early in the morning + helps prepare breakfast. In Baden-Baden, hotel director Rademacher is responsible for two extraordinary hotels. In the "Belle Époque" the Art Nouveau style runs through the whole house. The furnishings consist of antiques. Cocktail receptions are held in the spacious garden. Of course, Annette has to serve here. Quotes from the famous book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry can be found on the wall of the house and throughout the house in "The Little Prince." Annette learns a lot about the hotel world during a game of billiards in the fireplace room. The Hotel Erbprinz in Karlsruhe has more than 200 years of tradition and is one of the top addresses in the hotel industry. Here, Annette cleans the wellness area early in the morning before the guests are pampered. She is also instructed in the correct folding of towels. She has to show a lot of flair in the patisserie. The task here is to bring the finest tartlets and coffee to the tables without any accidents. Years ago, the Marschall couple opened a teddy bear hotel in Kressbronn on Lake Constance. Bear motifs and a wide variety of stuffed bears can be found in every room and even in the toilets. Interested guests can have their own bear repaired by the teddy doctor. In Hotel Arthus, one of the oldest buildings in Aulendorf, Annette immerses herself in the world of the Middle Ages. At the knight's banquet, a cupbearer examines food and drink. Annette assists him as a maid. The hotel rooms have names like "Ambrosius" or "Barbarossa". The staff has modern training. Annette also attends a course on complaint management.
