Ökochecker: The trick with the best-before date
In this series, the duo Katharina Röben and Tobias Koch would like to help the audience make informed decisions in terms of sustainability by tapping into the most diverse areas of everyday life for ecological improvement ideas.
On average, almost 80 kilograms of food are thrown away by every German every year. Often the reason is that the best-before date has expired. How long can food really be kept? What can be done - especially in times of rising prices - against the massive waste of food? How can you get hold of food that is almost expired but still good? The SWR reporters look into this and also take a look at the question of how to refrigerate food properly and what to look out for when buying a fridge.
